Monday, June 10, 2013 — GREENSBORO -- The Greensboro Grasshoppers edged the Kannapolis Intimidators, 4-3 (F/7), in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader at NewBridge Bank Park.  Kannapolis (23-38) comes away with a series split heading into the final home stand of the first half.

Greensboro (29-33) broke a 3-3 tie in the sixth inning as Cody Keefer doubled down the right field line to lead off the inning. A sac-bunt moved Keefer to third, and Yeison Hernandez brought home the go-ahead run with a sac-fly to right field.

Kannapolis starter Tony Bucciferro (0-2) worked a complete game in the loss, tossing 6.0 innings, allowing four runs on 11 hits while striking out one and walking none.

Greensboro reliever Chipper Smith worked 2.0 perfect innings to close the game, earning the win. Smith (3-0) struck out four batters.

The Grasshoppers struck first, scoring three runs on five consecutive one-out singles in the first inning. Viosery Rosa, Yordy Cabrera and Cody Keefer drove in runs after Anthony Gomez and Jesus Solorzano began the hit-parade.

Michael Marjama roped a line-drive home run, his first of the year, over the left field wall to put Kannapolis on the board in the top of the second inning.

Kannapolis loaded the bases with one out in the third inning, but Greensboro starter Daniel Oliver buckled down to retire the next two batters, preserving a 3-1 lead.  Oliver took no decision in 5.0 innings of work, allowing three runs on five hits while walking five and striking out two.

The Intimidators tied the game with two runs in the fifth inning.  Kale Kiser drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a Micah Johnson base hit.  After a passed ball put both runners in scoring position, Jake Brown grounded out to cash Kiser.  Johnson scored on an errant throw by catcher Mike Vaughn, who was trying to throw out Yoandy Barroso at second base.

Johnson left the game as a precaution after taking a foul boul off his leg while leading off third base during Barroso's at-bat. He stayed in the game to score the tying run before Michael Johnson replaced him at second base in the bottom of the fifth.

The Intimidators return home on Monday, June 10, to open a seven-game home stand against the Augusta GreenJackets (Giants) and Rome Braves (Braves).  RHP Braulio Ortiz (0-1, 2.61) will make his second start for Kannapolis on Monday after working the first 4.0 innings of the Intimidators no hitter last Wednesday.
