The Stanly News and Press (Albemarle, NC)

A coiled cable and dog house, both void of a family's dog of seven years, is a grim reminder that Stanly County Animal Control fatally shot the pet in his owner's yard after the pit bull became loose. Officials said they were unable to catch the dog after and one and a half hours, thus were were forced to shoot the dog in the interest of public safety.
