Seventh graders from Sandy Hatley’s class at Stanfield Elementary School recently took a farm tour across rural Stanly County.
The youth toured Talley Farms in Stanfield, Shelly Smith Dairy in Cottonville and Rolling Hills Cotton Gin in New London.
The trip was organized by NC Cooperative Extension agriculture agents, Steve Lemons and Shannon Braswell.
Students will take what they learned and develop a multi-media presentation on the agriculture of Stanly County to be used as an instructional tool in fourth grade classrooms next year.
Hatley is Stanly County’s Ag Ambassador for Farm Bureau and works to promote the teaching of agriculture in the classroom.
