The NSHS Chorus and Handbell Choir will present their spring concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Albemarle. The choir consists of 65 singers and handbell ringers.
“It has truly been a pleasure to work with these fine musicians this semester. North Stanly is very lucky to have so many outstanding musicians,” said director Aza Hudson.
This concert will include a variety of choral pieces including “Song for the Unsung Hero,” “Come, Go With Me,” “Omnia Sol” and a Korean folk song, “Arirang.” Kayte Hahn will accompany this piece on flute.
The handbell choir has many unique selections and surprises in store. Pieces in their repertoire include “John Williams Medley,” “Halle, Halle, Hallelujah,” “Canon in D” and the challenging but fun, “Beach Spring Stomp.”
Amber Bennett and Bradley Eudy, both seniors, will perform an arrangement of Offenbach’s “Can Can” as a handbell duet.
The concert will also feature the Men of the North, an ensemble made up of Ryan Burris, Bradley Eudy, Came-ron Hathcock, Cameron Jackson, Cody Sabol, Wesley Long and Kourtney Ross. They will perform a Swahili folk song entitled, “Bwana Awabariki,” “Steal Away,” “This Little Light of Mine” and the 1962 pop hit, “Sherry.”
In January a group of ladies formed a new ensemble that meets after school once a week. These Women of North include: Hillari Biby, Leanna Chestnut, Alicia Freeman, Courtney Hath-cock, Kayte Hahn and Jessica Lowder. They will perform the hits “Lollipop,” “Annie’s Song” and “Build Me Up, Buttercup.”
The concert is free and open to the public.
