A housing and interior design specialist has turned over a new leaf using her skills and knowledge to help community members in need.
Stanly County Habitat for Humanity welcomed Cheryl Turner Aug. 4 as the new public relations and resource development coordinator.
Turner ran her own interior design business for 13 years and happened upon an opportunity to continue in her field in a more meaningful way.
“After researching the position, it was a perfect fit,” Turner said.
“I’ll be helping to develop resources for families to improve their lives by owning their own homes.”
Turner will be raising awareness throughout the county and informing the community what Habitat’s mission is all about. She will also be working closely with the committees and families, maintaining contacts throughout the community, businesses, churches and schools, developing the ReStore, building on current fundraisers and finding innovative ways to help increase the number of houses built each year.
“There are many things that I have done in my prior business that I feel will be an asset to Habitat,” Turner said.
Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Cemita Gibbs said she is excited about Stanly County Habitat’s future and eager to raise awareness in the community, which will allow for a more intensive partnership network throughout the county.
“Cheryl is a very welcomed addition to our staff,” Gibbs said.
“Having filled this position, I feel very positive about the services we can provide in the upcoming year to our community.
“We are further developing the ReStore and the amount of quality items that can be offered to the public at affordable prices. These revenues help to support our overall mission of helping our families that are in need of a hand up in their current circumstances.”
Turner is a North Stanly High School graduate who received her bachelor of science degree in housing and interior design at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Prior to receiving her degree, she attended Wingate University for two years in general studies.
She is married, has two daughters and resides in Richfield.
