After surviving a near-fatal car crash with a drunk driver and a move from Pennsylvania, Wanda Burger has opened her therapist practice in Albemarle.
Aptly named “Changing Seasons,” the former nurse, now licensed therapist, seeks to lead people to the person they were meant to be with a thankful heart for just being alive.
“I believe God spared my life to help others, to make a difference, to make others have a better life,” Burger said at her recent open house at 1040 E. Main St., Albemarle.
Licensed in North Carolina in 2006 as a professional counselor and clinical addiction specialist among others, Burger is currently working with group homes, individual families and kids of all ages.
She specializes with family, parenting and marriage issues and with behavioral issues such as bipolar, depression, anxiety and stress.
Burger is in the process of forming three support groups: grief therapy, anger management and spousal abuse prevention.
Her last grief therapy group was planned for six weeks, but extended for almost a year and included ministers, other therapists and doctors.
As for anger management, Burger will have a group for adults and another for youth and reports having had good success with both males and females within both age groups.
When having sessions where spousal abuse is the issue, Burger has a rule of keeping the women and men separated to provide a safe and secure environment.
