This Weekend in Stanly County September 21

Tuesday, September 18, 2012 — It’s official. Fall begins on Saturday with twelve hours of daylight and twelve hours of dark. Slowly, nights will begin to draw in and we can look forward to cooler weather, trees in glorious fall colors, pumpkins, and the scary build-up to Halloween. This is a great weekend to enjoy an outdoor concert and cruise-in, to enjoy choosing produce at the farmers’ market and to enjoy getting thoroughly lost in a corn maze.

On Friday evening head to the thriving community of Locust when the city hosts a Summer Concert Series and Cruise-In in their beautiful downtown. The Locust Cruise-In starts at 5 pm in the Locust Town Center. Holiday Band will perform starting at 6 pm. The Concert Series and Cruise-In is a great time to get outside and enjoy wonderful music and unique cars in a beautiful setting.

Begin your day Saturday with a trip to Market Station in downtown Albemarle. Here you’ll find the Stanly County Farmers’ Market in full swing. Stalls are filled with fresh produce from local farms, home-made breads, pies, cakes, plants and a variety of crafts. The friendly vendors all come from within a 100 mile range of the county. Support your local economy while you treat yourself to the freshest produce available.

Ever been told to get lost? Well now you have a fun place to do just that. On Saturday and Sunday the Get Lost Corn Maze is open from 11 am to 7 pm. The address is 20935 NC 73 Highway, Albemarle (in Millingport between Albemarle and Mount Pleasant). The maze is sponsored by Muddy Boots Farm. Try to find your way through over 2 miles of right and wrong paths in over 7.5 acres of corn. Here you’ll also find a picnic shelter, a pumpkin patch where you can pick your own pumpkin, a corn pit and other activities. And don’t forget to get ready for the Maze of Terror on October 6, 2012.

For a complete change of pace, head to the Agri-Civic Center where from 6 pm to 9 pm you can catch a program by the Carolina Dance Masters, Inc. This is a branch of Dance Masters of America, Inc., a professional certified membership organization of artists and educators committed to the elevation of the art of dance and to providing innovative artistic experiences for the advancement of dance worldwide.

This first weekend in fall enjoy the music, the market, the dancing and the chance to get thoroughly lost. There’ll be a lot more going on next weekend, so stayed tuned.
