SCC graduates auto body certificate students

Tuesday, August 21, 2012 — Recently, Stanly Community College (SCC) hosted a graduation ceremony honoring four students who have completed the Auto Body Certificate Program currently offered under the Vocational and Industrial Skilled Trades area of Continuing Education.

In January of 2012, SCC’s Auto Body Program formed an Academic Alliance with I-CAR as one of only six colleges in the state to offer their students proper I-CAR training and certification.

I-CAR stands for Inter-Industry Conference on Auto Collision Repair which as an international organization, develops and delivers high levels of technical training to professionals in all areas of the collision industry.

This is the first group of students at SCC to complete their training for I-CAR certification.

Automotive Program Head Billy Huneycutt congratulated the students and presented them with certificates in Auto Body Repair and I-CAR training.

“For me life has come full circle,” said Huneycutt.

“After high school I started taking an auto body class here at SCC. Now 35 years later I am graduating my own students. They have worked very hard and I’m extremely proud of them. I am also grateful for our assistant instructors Bill O’Neal and Bill Shuffle-botham. Their time and expert knowledge was most helpful during this past year,” said Huneycutt.

According to Mike Hogan, associate vice president of Advanced Manufacturing and Industrial Technology, “The automotive industry is constantly developing new technologies to make cars more efficient and safer. The graduates of our Auto Body Program have gained the high-tech skills necessary to be very successful in this industry today.”

Hogan offered congratulatory remarks to the students as did Robin McCree, executive vice president of Educational Services.
