From a dance competition to a circuit shooting event, and from a wine festival to an evening with the arts, there’s something for every taste here in Stanly County this weekend. This is also a great time for a hike in one of our parks, a lovely time to pick daffodils and a perfect time to get out in the garden and prepare it for spring planting.
Starsystems National Dance Competition Regionals takes place from Friday, February 22 through Sunday, February 24 from 9am until 5 pm.
Marcy Tuttle, CEO and Founder of STAR SYSTEMS™ NATIONAL TALENT COMPETITION, began her dancing career at an early age thanks to a family disagreement. At three years old, her parents debated the merits of various activities for their little girl. Her mother wanted baton, her father it seemed favor dance lessons. Guess who won?
By the time Marcy was 21 she was an accomplished dancer and ready to strike out in a new direction. She opened two studios in southern Florida, and enlisted both mom and dad to assist her in running the business before stumbling on a golden opportunity, a failing competition business. With two speakers and a tape deck, STAR SYSTEMS™ was officially on its way. That was in 1987…..making this the 25th year in the competition industry.
Drop in at the Agri-Civic Center this weekend and watch a variety of dance and dancers perform as they compete in this exciting dance competition.
If you’ve never visited the beautiful Fork Farm and Stables in Norwood, this weekend might be a good time to visit. This world-class equestrian & shooting facility will host the North Carolina Circuit Shoot on Saturday, February 23 from 9am to 5pm.
On Saturday, February 23, from noon until 5 pm, the Stanly County Winter Wine Festival takes place at Market Station in downtown Albemarle. Presented by the Albemarle Downtown Development Corporation and Harris Teeter, this annual event is becoming increasingly popular. Under a heated tent, visitors can find all the local and area vineyards represented, with wine, wine tasting, wine glasses and other wine-related paraphernalia for sale, plus good food and a great variety of local vendors. Don’t miss this fun occasion that brightens up the last days of winter.
The wine festival should put you right in the mood for an evening of art. On Saturday, February 23rd, 2013 at 7:00 pm the Stanly County Arts Council will host the Third Annual Evening With The Arts in the Magnolia Room of Stanly Regional Medical Center. The evening will include a delicious catered meal and entertainment from various artists and performing arts groups in the area. An Arts Display will be made available by the Stanly Arts Guild. Tickets for the Event at $25, and can be purchased at the Arts Council Office, located in the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center, Suite G, or from any Arts Council Board Member. For more information, call 704-982-8118.
Winter never slows us down here in Stanly County. We can always find plenty of indoor entertainment. But warmer weather is on the way and there are many fun outdoor events coming up. Stay tuned.
