Saturday, 10:30 a.m. - Mother’s Day luncheon in the fellowship hall of St. Luke Church of the Living Word. Women sharing their testimonies include: Sis. Rosemary Christian of Stanly Grove, Norwood; Elder Mae Jackson of St. Matthew, Oakboro; and Sis. Sarah Boulware of St. Luke, Sis. Erica McCall of Shiloh Baptist, and teacher Mary T. Smith of St. Luke, all of Badin.
Sunday, 8-10 a.m. - Annual Mother’s Day breakfast at the E.E. Waddell Center. The event will show your mom how much you appreciate her. Good food, songs and guest speaker. Free event.
Sunday, 11 a.m. - Mother’s Day at Stanly Grove, Norwood. Speaker will be Elizabeth “Betty” Christian of St. Luke, mother of pastor Elder Douglas Christian.
May 16-17, 11 a.m. - Members of Parkers Grove Baptist Church will be sponsoring a fundraiser at the New London Community Building on U.S. 52. Plates are $7 and consist of: chicken, potato salad, green beans, rolls and dessert. Delivery available.
May 18 - Annual Women’s Day celebration at Shiloh Baptist Church. The theme is “Christian women united for God’s service in the spirit of love, power and praise.” The speaker for the 11 a.m. service will be Georgette Edgerton of Spirit and Truth United Church of Worship in Albemarle. Minister Althea Harris of Parker’s Grove Baptist Church in New London will be the 3 p.m. speaker. All ladies are asked to dress in white apparel with a colorful scarf.
May 23, 7 p.m. - Minister Tammy Owens of Living Truth Ministries will be speaking on a youth program at St. Luke Church of the Living Word.
May 25 - Youth Day at St. Luke. Minister Lori Snipes of Sanctuary Deliverance, Greensboro, will be the 11 a.m. speaker. The 4 p.m. speaker will be Minister Lynda Purcell Wilson of Calvary Sanctuary, Fayetteville. The pastor is Bishop Chenner Smith.
May 25, 3 p.m. - First Baptist Spiritual Choir anniversary. All local choirs have a standing invitation. The president is Charlie Capel and the pastor is Dr. C.R. Lee.
June 14 - Rainbow Tea at St. Luke. More TBA.
June 22, 11 a.m. - Shiloh Baptist Church, New London, invites the public to their annual Men’s Day program. Pastor P. Kelly will deliver the morning message. Dinner will follow. Minister Burmine McCall will deliver the afternoon message at 3 p.m. Male choirs, officers, ushers and members are asked to help worship.
July 4-6 - 2008 West Badin Alumni staff is planning and organizing in preparation for the return home. Dues are asked. You may contact Lois Westbrook, Benny or Daisy Washington, Barbara Applewhite, Claude Kirk, Lucille Little or Ernest Peoples.
Armed Forces
Michelle Brown was welcomed back from Iraq by her mother, Karen Williams, and aunt, Minister Evelyn Scott. She will be in the state a week.
Also home from Iraq for a few days is Steve Willoughby. He visited relatives, friends and Betty Christian.

Bereavement
Our most heartfelt sympathy to the “Bobby” Atkins family in his death.
Our sympathy extends to the Walter Conrad family of Massachusetts in the death of their son, Cory Conward. Elder Roger Williams will be attending the funeral.
