Parent/student workshop
The parent/student workshop that was held at Saints Delight Church Aug. 16 was very successful. Students from K-12, college students, parents, grandparents, and concerned adults were present. The presenter, Dr. Henry Cobb, principal at Cheraw High School, S.C. and pastor of St. Matthew, Oakboro, did an excellent job speaking about the schools.
Todd Thorpe, former principal at Albemarle Middle School and now executive director for personnel student services, was also a highlight at the workshop.
Dr. Cobb and Thorpe, at one time or another, talked to adults and students only and then everyone convened back in the fellowship hall for questions and answers. One of the nurses, Suzette Walters of Stanly County Schools, was present and talked of the importance of shots that are required now for rising sixth graders as well as what are the requirements for kindergartners.
Lunch was served and enjoyed by everyone in the dinning room. Everyone enjoyed themselves and are looking forward to the next session.
Thanks to Bishop and Sister Peggy Richardson and Minister Kim Scott, director of Student Services for Stanly County Schools, for getting these people together for this workshop.
Special thanks to the kitchen committee for making sure everyone had snacks during the breaks, as well as a balanced lunch. To the different churches that were well represented, thanks to you all for your continued support.
