Sunday was homecoming. The Rev. Yates Brooks was the guest speaker.
The call to worship was “Lilly of the Valley.” “When We All Get to Heaven” was the offertory hymn and “The Old Country Church” was the choir special. Brenda Burris and Christeen Sasser got a standing ovation after playing “Awakening Chorus” during the offertory.
Kevin Herring will have charge of the prayer service on Wednesday night and Jeff Keplinger will speak next Sunday.
Conference will be held Sunday to vote for officers and teachers for the coming year.
The youth will have a workday in September to do odd jobs people wish to have done.
There will be a Baptismal Service on Aug. 31.
Personals
Bill and Nell Jacumin left on Saturday, Aug. 9, to go to Valdese to attend Bill’s high school class reunion. There was a catered lunch and a time to visit with the class members. Later in the afternoon they drove on to Pigeon Forge, Tenn., for a week. They returned late on Saturday afternoon. After church on Sunday, they and Robert, Kathy and William went to Indian Trail to join the rest of the family to eat lunch and help Bill celebrate his birthday.
Leonard and Donna Harvell and the Phil Harvell family spent all last week vacationing at North Myrtle Beach. Jeff, Charlene, Adam and Angela Harvell went down for a couple nights with them.
Cheri Smith had a birthday on Friday. The family went with her to Rocky River Fish House for dinner and helped her celebrate. Cheri, along with Rob Milano, Tim and Diane Smith, Michael Smith, Jeffrey and Leah Swink and Melanie, Gurnie and Dorothy Smith enjoyed the meal.
Mary Dunigan returned home late on Thursday after visiting relatives for the past three weeks. She spent much of the time with a niece, Margaret McKenny, in Bloomingdale, Ohio. Her sister, Ruby Rowand, lives with Margaret now while she is battling with cancer. She also visited her daughter, Brenda Hamilton, in Beaver Falls, Pa. A sister, Ruth Hardee, lives in Wampum, and brother, Allen Reed in Zelienople, Pa.
She has several relatives in Weirton, W.Va. A Reed reunion was held while she was there. Her son, Mark Watkins and family were in St. Clairsville, Ohio. Mary had a real good trip.
