The price of the proposed livestock arena, two zoning amendments, a planning board appointment and a resolution to support a house bill regarding COVID vaccination are among the topics scheduled for Monday’s meeting of the Stanly County Commissioners.

According to the agenda, the board will consider an amendment to an existing design-build contract with MCT for the maximum price of the livestock arena at $5.8 million.

The county has already accepted $1.872 million in grant money and donations, along with money previously committed to the project. Stanly has spent $86,807 on the project.

Commissioners will also consider appointing someone to the seven-member planning board. One three-year term is open, and in the agenda packet T.J. Smith has stated he would like to be reappointed. The board has also received an application from Brian Johnson.

The board will also consider a zoning amendment regarding campers in a manufactured home park, as well as an amendment bringing parking space width into compliance with a new state regulation.

Commissioners will also consider a resolution regarding a house bill called the Medical Freedom Act, which the agenda said would “prohibit state agencies, local governments and political subdivision of the State from discriminating against persons based on their refusal to provide proof of a COVID-19 vaccination or to submit to a COVID-19 vaccination.”

(The Health and Human Services Board voted 7-4 Thursday to not support the resolution. Click here for more from that meeting.)

The commissioners meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m.
