Farmer to perform in MGCCA concert series

Wednesday, December 7, 2011 — The Ashley Jo Farmer Band will perform Dec. 9, on the MGCCA Concert Series. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Haywood Event Center, 104 S. Main St., Mount Gilead.

Farmer, a singer/songwriter rooted in the heart of North Carolina, has always been a fan of music, and pulls inspiration from many well-known singer/songwriters including the likes of Karen Carpenter, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Beth Wood and the Indigo Girls.

In addition to her original work, Farmer is also known for her work as a touring background vocalist for the Billy Jonas Band. She was introduced to Jonas, a folk artist, in 2005. He immediately invited her to become a permanent fixture in his band and she began touring with him.

In the last five years, Farmer has traveled with the Billy Jonas Band across the United States playing at many notable venues, and along the way rubbing shoulders with a few of the country’s finest musicians and celebrities, including  Peter Yarrow, Bela Fleck, Roger Day, River Guerguerian, Beth Wood, Claudia Schmidt, Allison Krauss, The Thompson Twins and Canadian folk band Tanglefoot. Her collaboration with Jonas also provided an opportunity to perform at the White House Easter Egg Roll in 2010.

Still contracting vocal work through Hit Music Studios and touring with Billy Jonas at the same time, Farmer has also found time to work on a more personal project. Her first full album, which is a culmination of songs she’s written or co-written over the past 10 years, was just released this summer.

Farmer performs with a four-piece backing band for live concerts. The band is made up of her husband Tommy Farmer (bass and guitar), Alan Grossman (guitar), Wes Copeland (mandolin), and Louis Bodak (percussion/drums).

MGCCA Concert Series season memberships begin at $50 per person ($30 for students) and include tickets to all performances in the Concert Series.

More information can be found at www.mgcca.com, at (910) 439-1127, or from MGCCA board members. Tickets to individual shows in the series are available for $15 ($8 for students).

MGCCA also provides performing arts encounters for local public school students, supports the Mount Gilead Community Choir and operates Community Radio 88.1 FM WMTG in Mount Gilead.
