Friends to welcome Miller

Monday, October 24, 2011 — Author Heather Ross Miller will appear at the Pfeiffer University Friends of the Library’s Fall Event for brunch and author talk on Nov. 1, 10 a.m.-noon, G.A. Pfeiffer Library, 2nd floor, Pfeiffer University, U.S. 52 N., Misenheimer.

Miller has published numerous works of fiction, nonfiction and poetry, inclu-ding “Champeen” (novel), “Gypsy with Baby”  (poetry), and “Crusoe’s Island, A Story of a Writer and a Place” (memoir). She is a recipient of the Alumni Distinguished Achievement Award from the University of North Carolina at Greens-boro, where she earned a bachelor’s degree and an MFA in creative writing. She has received the North Caro-lina Award for Literature, two fellowships from the National Endowment of the Arts and has taught creative writing at Pfeiffer Univer-sity, University of Arkansas and Washington and Lee University.

The focus of her presentation Nov. 1 will be the topic “the real within the imaginary,” and will center around her two most recent books “The Creative Writing Mur-ders,” a comic novel set at Pfeiffer College, and “Lum-ina: A Town of Two Voices,” a collection of narrative poems set in Badin.

Brunch begins at 10 a.m., followed at 11 a.m. by the author’s presentation and questions. The cost is $10; all proceeds benefit Friends of the Library. Reservations are required by Oct. 28;
