Stanly County Chamber of Commerce held a joint ribbon cutting Friday for the Lillian Mill project and Monarch, which was formerly known as ARC Services, Inc.
The event was at the Lillian Mill building in front of Monarch’s office.
Many of the Albemarle City Council members were on hand for the event as well as several Chamber Ambassadors and the board of directors, employees and members of Monarch.
After Stephen Chambers of Chambers Engineering and Sherrill Smith of S & D Construction thanked the city for their support of the project, Peggy Terhune, executive director for Monarch, spoke.
“We want to thank everyone for the support they have shown, and we especially thank Sherrill for the beautiful office we have here. Never could we have dreamed to have such a beautiful place,” Terhune said.
When she finished, Terhune led the group of Monarch members in releasing several Monarch butterflies.
The Lillian Mill building includes residential, commercial and office space with original pine, maple and oak hardwood floors that have been refinished. Pipes and ventilation systems are arranged to where they are visible to the public to keep the historical feel to the structure.
Monarch, which is housed in the downstairs portion of the building, serves between 500 and 600 people a day in its facilities, with approximately 250 employees and many volunteers.
