Stanly County residents will be able to experience a unique sight Friday as the Ride of Pride Freightliner, Inc.’s cab will be riding through the county.
The design of the cab is the result of a yearly contest held by Freightliner’s Cleveland, N.C. plant, where employees volunteer their time to design a Ride of Pride truck.
The winning design is then recreated on a cab and the cab is driven each Saturday before Memorial Day through Washington D.C., where it will be placed near the various war monuments.
“The truck honors our military, including those who are currently serving, as well as veterans, POWs and MIAs,” said Becky Weemhoff, who along with Keith Arbuckle, helped to organize the Stanly County Honor Ride.
A group of motorcycle riders, consisting of the Patriot Guard Riders, Rolling Thunder and the American Legion Riders, will escort the cab from the Cleveland plant through the county.
The Stanly County Sheriff’s Office and city of Albemarle police will also be escorting the truck once it enters the county and the whole time it is traveling within the county.
The cab will also be making stops throughout the county with the following schedule:
