Tony Dennis, chairman of the Stanly County Board of Commissioners, has announced that the board has unanimously extended an offer of an employment contract for the position of county manager to Andy Lucas, current county manager of Anson County.
Lucas has verbally accepted the offer and plans to begin work in Stanly County Aug. 18. The contract details are still in the process of being worked out.
Dennis indicated Andy Lucas brings to the table a proven record of education, experience and skills derived from three years as county manager of Anson County and seven years in Mecklenburg County, where he served as a senior management analyst in the county manager’s office. Ten years of experience in both large and smaller jurisdictions provides an excellent balance of skills and abilities that can serve Stanly County well in the future, officials said.
Lucas has a Master’s of Public Administration and a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice from the University of North Carolina in Charlotte. He has served as an adjunct professor at Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer.
He and his wife, Dawn, have two sons, ages 4 and 6, and plan on relocating to Stanly County within the next few months.
The Stanly County manager’s position became available because of the announced retirement on Aug. 31 of Jerry D. Myers, who has served as county manager for the seven years. Lucas and Myers will work together from Aug. 18 to Aug. 31 to assure a smooth transition for the change in county management.
