I just read where Ken Furr wants a runoff with Mr. Justin Burr. His whole claim for a runoff is that 63 percent of the people voted against Justin. Doing a quick addition it can be said that 67 percent of the people voted against Ken. Thus it seems his reasoning for a runoff election is ludicrous at best.
Maybe Mr. Furr lost some support when he was seen shouting like a banshee in Raleigh against Alcoa Power’s certification to use Yadkin’s waters to provide electricity to us folks.
That was a poor choice by him and I am sure a large number of voters turned away from him because we are tired of that same old bunch of commissioners and ex-commissioners beating a dead horse.
Mr. Mehta most likely dragged in third because of his caustic and arrogant stand that Alcoa was trying to maim everyone in Stanly when he knew that every precaution and compliance was enforced by Alcoa over the years.
The real rreason Mr. Furr and his compadres are envious of Mr. Burr is that they are tied to developers who have plans for developing the land around Alcoa. I’d invite the paper and any citizen to “follow the money” and you will understand why the commissioners, developers and the short term legislator want to stay in control.
I’m sure many folks around Badin know the best laid plans of “mice and men” when it concerns Alcoa. Mr. Furr’s dog just won’t hunt this time around.
It is time for Mr. Furr and Mr. Mehta to congratulate Mr. Burr and support his election.
Redoing is nothing more than slapping the voters of Stanly in the face.
Burr deserves the right to pass or fail without malingerers snapping at his heels even before he begins.
