Fair share?

Wednesday, September 19, 2012 — What is “Their Fair Share?” This is the simple question I have asked for three years. At the DNC, just about every speaker repeated that “if the rich would just pay, then America would be on its way to prosperity.”

I sent emails, posted on Facebook pages and even made several phone calls. From President Obama’s campaign site, the DNC site, Facebook pages, Sen. Kay Hagan web page, phone calls and Rep. Kissell, I got no response at all. Not even an acknowledgement.

So I tried locally by going to the Stanly County Democrat Facebook page and asking the same question. I added that the IRS said that the top 15 percent of earners, which includes the one percent the occupiers, are always protesting pay 73 percent of all the tax revenue collected. So what was “fair?” France has decided that 75 percent tax on what you make is fair.

David Morgan responded to my post saying if that was my opinion, I should vote for Romney.

I feel that as a 65-year-old Vietnam veteran, I paid my dues to have the right to freedom of speech and to ask legitimate questions. So again I ask, “What is their fair share?”

Maybe Mr. Eugene Pickler can answer this as he has had articles in the SNAP about the need to raise taxes on others, but not on himself.

  • Be nice to a veteran

Charles Plumb was a Navy pilot, who on his 76th combat mission over North Vietnam, was hit by a surface to air missile and had to eject. He parachuted into enemy hands and spent the next six years in the infamous Hanoi Hilton. He survived and now lectures on life’s lessons learned from that ordeal.

  • No ‘Memorial’ in title doesn’t sit well

Born just after World War II, to a war veteran, I grew up in the shadows of uncles and cousins who were WWII vets. Many Saturday nights were spent sitting by the fireplace, listening to their war stories of the places they were sent, what they had to endure and what they witnessed. They are my heroes. It is because of what they and U.S. military veterans since, have or are suffering, that I do what I can for any veteran who calls upon me. They have made me and they drive my life.

  • We are not the bad guy

This letter is for staff writer Ian Faulkner. You do not seem to think the threat from North Korea is serious. Read your history of war. I’m glad that our country takes it serious.

  • Respect the graves

As far back as I can remember, as far back as my grandparents could remember there has always been a clump of trees located across from Centerview Church, up on the hill, on the Northeast Connector.
