New bill would help business

Friday, March 22, 2013 — I am writing in reference to a new “open competition” auto insurance bill that was introduced in the N.C. House and Senate.

The bill will give all the auto insurance companies operating in this great state the opportunity to choose either the new system or they can stay with the old system.

The “new” system will allow greater competition which equates to more competitive pricing for auto insurance, which then equates to our citizens having more choices. Where there is competition there is price savings and more value.

It will be 36 years in June of this year when I started my first State Farm Insurance agency in North Carolina. I did not know “beans from apple butter” about car insurance at the time. At that time most states had a similar “rate bureau system” whereby operating with some efficiency and safety.

Over the years almost every state in the country has abandoned the “old” system because it breeds too much confusion, inefficiency and many problems too numerous to mention.

The new bill will empower consumers to shop and get the best value and price in the market. Justin Burr has signed on as one of the sponsors.

Ralph Brittain, agent

State Farm Insurance,

Concord

  • Be nice to a veteran

Charles Plumb was a Navy pilot, who on his 76th combat mission over North Vietnam, was hit by a surface to air missile and had to eject. He parachuted into enemy hands and spent the next six years in the infamous Hanoi Hilton. He survived and now lectures on life’s lessons learned from that ordeal.

  • No ‘Memorial’ in title doesn’t sit well

Born just after World War II, to a war veteran, I grew up in the shadows of uncles and cousins who were WWII vets. Many Saturday nights were spent sitting by the fireplace, listening to their war stories of the places they were sent, what they had to endure and what they witnessed. They are my heroes. It is because of what they and U.S. military veterans since, have or are suffering, that I do what I can for any veteran who calls upon me. They have made me and they drive my life.

  • We are not the bad guy

This letter is for staff writer Ian Faulkner. You do not seem to think the threat from North Korea is serious. Read your history of war. I’m glad that our country takes it serious.

  • Respect the graves

As far back as I can remember, as far back as my grandparents could remember there has always been a clump of trees located across from Centerview Church, up on the hill, on the Northeast Connector.
