I have a little park behind my house with a creek that runs under the road and through the park. The weeds and grass have grown so high that we have big rats and mosquitos, and we have also seen a couple of snakes down there.
The city of Albemarle mows the park. I asked those boys who to call to get it cleaned up. They told me Parks and Recreation. I called Parks and Recreation and they said that was not theirs. I called the city manager’s office the next week and they told me Public Works and she would notify them. The next week I called Public Works and they said it was Parks and Recreation. I told him that Parks and Recreation said it was not theirs. He told me he would call me back. He did and they told him they had it on their schedule.
Recently, the creek in my yard flowed over the banks on both sides. The water was up in my back yard halfway to the house. I had a knock on my front door and it was a city police officer. He said he had a call there was some flooding and he noticed we had a dog in the backyard, and we needed to bring him in. We had put him back out about an hour later and Animal Control showed up. The police had called them and told them about the dog.
If the city had only done what they said, there would never had been any flooding in the first place. This creek has not been cleaned out in five or six years or maybe longer. I wish I had taken a picture.
