Melton (Doc) and Mildred Smith of Oakboro celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 30, 2012, with a cookout at Red Cross Baptist Church fellowship hall, which was hosted by their children, son-in-laws and grandchildren.
The couple was married on June 30, 1962, at Philadel-phia Baptist Church in Stanfield. Rev. Melvin Curlee officiated the ceremony.
Mrs. Smith is the former Mildred Ann Brooks, dau-ghter of the late Norman and Martha Brooks, formerly of Stanfield.
Mr. Smith is the son of the late Claude and Viola Smith, formerly of Oak-boro.
The couple has two daughters, Gina Williams and Freda Brattain, both of Oakboro. They also have five grandchildren.
For the celebration Mrs. Smith wore a gold top and navy pants.
The tables were decorated with vases of Queen Anne’s lace, eucalyptus and black-eyed Susan’s on mirror tiles with gold doilies with anniversary mints.
Other decorations included angel winged begonia, tables displayed with wedding and family photos, marriage certificate and cards given while dating and the cake topper and Bible carried in their wedding. Her wedding gown and veil and his suit were on display.
Cupcakes were served with their wedding picture on them. Chocolate and vanilla pound cake with homemade ice cream were also served.
The cookout was completed with hot dogs and hamburgers and all the trimmings.
Harry Williams attended the register. Others who assisted were Jordan Will-iams, Kelly Brattain, Tyler Williams, Andrew Brattain, Daniel Brattain, Michelle Kiker, Betty and Darrell Eury, Gary McIlwaine and Jim and Esther Smith.
Ninety-three guests att-ended from Oakboro, Loc-ust, Stanfield, Albemarle, Winston-Salem, Concord, Cornelius, Clemmons and Gold Hill.
