Branch wins Artist of the Year award
A Stanly County resident has received an award for the work he does in Montgomery County.
Oakboro’s Jeff Branch recently received the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce’s Artist of the Year award.
Tree seedlings offered by Soil and Water Conservation
Stanly Soil and Water Conservation District will sell pine tree and hardwood seedlings at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center in Albemarle.

Along with all other Lions Clubs in the state, the Albemarle Lions Club’s objective is to help the visually impaired. Most funds raised by the Lions in this state are used to supply physical and medical aid, and to maintain a vacation center, both for the visually impaired
Albemarle church serves as donation site for Haiti relief efforts
In response to the need for assistance in Haiti following the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck there on Jan. 12, and the aftershocks that followed, Albemarle First Presbyterian Church, at 126 W. North St., will serve as a collection site for Haiti Disaster Kits
Town may increase peddler’s fee
During the public concerns portion of the Norwood Town Council meeting Monday night, residents made it known that those who come to the town to sell their goods for profit should be assessed some type of fee.
SCS announces kindergarten registration schedule
Kindergarten registration for Stanly County Schools will be held in March.

Stanly County Prays raises more than $5K for local charities
The annual Stanly County Prays community-wide prayer service, sponsored by local churches and the Stanly County Family YMCA, raised more than $5,650 for four charitable causes in Stanly County
Purcell to seek re-election
Sen. Bill Purcell announced that he will seek re-election to represent the 25th N.C. Senatorial District, which includes Anson, Richmond, Scot-land and Stanly counties.
Purcell, a native of Laurinburg, practiced pediatrics for 36 years, served on the Laurinburg City Council for six years and as mayor of Laurinburg for 10 years before being appointed to the N.C. Senate in 1997. He has been re-elected six times.
Burr accepts page applications
Rep. Justin Burr of Stanly County announced Monday that he will be accepting page applications for the 2010 short session, which begins May 12.
Gray Stone to build facility
Now in its eighth year of excellence in education, Gray Stone Day School (GSDS) will officially break ground on a new 50,000-square-foot school building very soon. Closing on the $7.2 million project was held late last Friday afternoon, according to GSDS Director Helen Nance.
Grants give funding for Allied Health, Adult Literacy students
Stanly Community College (SCC) recently received funding that will help support students in the Allied Health Care and Adult Literacy programs.
