The World War II veterans of Stanly County will be honored for Memorial Day on Tuesday, May 27.
Stanly Community College will host the event in the Webb Student Center at 11:30 a.m.
A luncheon will be served, courtesy of Henry E. Farmer, retired US Army lieutenant and colonel and presi-dent/owner of Henry E. Farmer, Incorporated.
Dr. Michael Taylor, president of Stanly Community College, will give the welcome remarks.
All World War II veterans are invited to attend. For more information, contact Don Carrick at (704) 422-3066 or Donna Jones at Stanly Community College (704) 991-0217.
“It is so appropriate to observe Memorial Day and recognize all veterans who died in war or peace. We will be remembering those who have gone before us and honor those who remain,” said Carrick, veteran and retired Air Force chief master sergeant. Carrick is coordinating the event.
The World War II veterans would like to remind everyone that when they see an American flag flying in the breeze, they see a great symbol of freedom for a nation honoring those who have died to keep it free.
“We are proud and appreciative for all the veterans of war,” said Taylor.
“We feel fortunate to be able to say thank you to the remaining veterans of World War II, and we look forward to a great program for them at SCC.”
