A special treat will be available at the Cruisin’ Downtown Albemarle event Friday as the Brain Freeze ice cream truck featured on CMT’s Trick My Truck will be on display.
Joe Patty, who owns Lickety Split Ice Cream in Arlington, Va. and the Brain Freeze truck, will be arriving at the Kimbrell’s parking lot along First Street at 5 p.m.
He will be available to talk about his truck and the CMT show as well as to sign autographs.
“We’re selling limited edition T-shirts for this special event,” said Vicki Coggins, executive director of Albe-marle Downtown Develop-ment Corporation.
The shirts can be purchased the night of the event at two stations. One will be beside the Brain Freeze truck on First Street and the other table will be along Second Street.
Patty will not be selling ice cream for the event, though.
The Brain Freeze truck was featured in a July 2007 episode of the CMT hit show “Trick My Truck.”
Patty first bought the truck after realizing how run-down and unsafe the local ice cream trucks in Arlington looked. He wanted to make a difference by providing a safe environment for the children in the community.
So in his spare time, when he wasn’t serving as a police officer, he sold ice cream.
The Chrome Shop Mafia boys of “Trick My Truck” decided to repay his service by enhancing his truck. The result was Brain Freeze.
It has an air-ride system that allows the truck to lower almost on the ground.
There is a coin maze dispenser in the shape of an ice cream cone on the outside so the kids can watch their change come down to them.
The underside has street glow LED lighting capable of many colors and themes. The cherry on top was custom-made to house the speaker for the ice cream music.
On the inside there are two upright glass door reach-in freezers so the selections of ice creams can be viewed from the serving window.
On top of the freezers are candy dispensers and the floor is chrome-diamond plates.
The interior walls are vinyl to make it look like a Nea-politan ice cream sandwich.
There is also a 1,000-watt stereo system with speakers built into a triple scoop of ice cream.
All are encouraged to come out and view Brain Freeze Friday night.
“We want folks to come out and see the truck. Joe is making about a nine-hour drive just to come for the event,” Coggins said.
