New clinic director to lead Pfeiffer Institute for Marriage and Family Therapy

Tuesday, June 23, 2009 — Dr. Faith Drew has been named clinic director of the Pfeiffer Institute for Marr-iage and Family Therapy, a community-based therapy and training clinic at 4805 Park Road, Ste. 250, between McAlister’s Deli and Pfeiffer University’s Charlotte campus.

The institute is an invaluable resource and also accepts community referrals through its supervised service-learning component. It also serves as a field placement source for qualified Marriage and Family Ther-apy (MFT) graduate counseling interns from Pfeiffer University. The supervised experience will prepare interns to become competent clinicians with expertise in family systems.

As clinic director, Drew will direct, manage and coordinate the Pfeiffer Institute. Since the clinic will serve as an important field placement source for qualified MFT graduate interns, she will help to coordinate counseling, education and outreach services to those students and to the greater community.

Drew will also provide the supervision of master’s students to ensure they complete the required 500 hours of face-to-face clinical field experience before graduation.

Additional duties will include the oversight of approved field placements, programming of orientation programs for interns, and collaboration of clinical self-studies and accreditation preparation.

Prior to Pfeiffer, Drew served as the associate director of the employee assistance program in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.

She is a licensed marriage and family therapist, a licensed professional counselor and a certified employee assistance professional. She has presented extensively and published numerous articles on creativity, grief and loss, and work with juveniles.

Drew earned a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy from Abilene Christian University in Texas, and a Ph.D. in the same discipline from Texas Tech University.

The Pfeiffer Institute is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
