Jay Almond is the new town manager of Badin.
The former news editor of The Stanly News & Press will assume his new duties on July 28.
“We feel very fortunate to have someone like Jay to take over as our town manager,” said Badin Mayor Jim Harrison.
“Jay seems to be sincere and a good people person. He also has local ties and has made many key contacts that will help him hit the ground running.”
As for his switch from journalism to town management, Almond is looking forward to the change and feels his experience will serve him well.
“I am looking forward to joining Badin’s leadership team and working with the residents and town council to continue the growth and enhancement the current administration is fostering,” Almond said.
“I have been fortunate in my time at The Stanly News & Press to have been afforded the opportunity to work closely with the diverse and flourishing communities in the county.”
In his six years at the SNAP, Almond said that the relationships developed with residents and his many professional contacts have been a tremendous part of his life.
“I anticipate those relationships will expand as I move into a new role in the community. My responsibilities for the Town of Badin will undoubtedly offer no shortage of challenges and no shortage of personal rewards going forward,” Almond said.
On losing Almond, SNAP Publisher Sandy Selvy said, “We’re very happy for Jay and although we’ll miss him very much, we know he’ll do Badin a great job.”
Almond, 32, is married to Tracey Bowers Almond, composing manager of the SNAP. He grew up in the Chapel Hill area and is the son of Janice and Stanly County native Steve Almond. He is a graduate of Pfeiffer University with a degree in communications.
