Monday, January 6, 2014 — A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries after he ran off the road and struck a driveway culvert.

Josiah Swede Dunlap, 20, of Robbins was traveling south on Tower Road when he veered off the right shoulder and hit a culvert pipe, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.

Impact of the Dec. 28 single-vehicle crash sent Dunlap airborne across the opposite side of the road, coming to a rest on the northbound shoulder. The motorcycle skidded along the right shoulder, reports show.

Dunlap was taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Northeast in Concord.

The 2000 Kawasaki motorcycle that Dunlap crashed sustained about $3,500 in damages. Owner of the motorcycle is listed as Jeremy Watkins of Albemarle. Watkins resides on the same road where the crash occurred, reports show.
