Arts Guild sponsors exhibition at Agri-Civic Center

Friday, February 1, 2013 — Work by Barry Moore will be on exhibit at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center throughout the month of February.

Moore is a digital artist who creates art from scratch and transforms photographs into art using computer software. He comes from a family of visual artists.

His mother is a painter and his father was an award winning news photographer. Growing up in this household, he developed an appreciation for the impact of the visual arts, pursuing both painting and photography as hobbies.

After retiring from a career in information technology, he was able to combine his skills into the digital art medium he uses today. He is primarily self-taught in both traditional and digital mediums.

Moore’s art and technology skills have led him to work with such organizations as the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, Piedmont Dance Theatre, Cannon Foundation, UNC Nutrition Research Institute, Oakboro Regional Museum of History and the Kannapolis Historical Society. He is also a member of the Cabarrus Art Guild.

Today,  Moore’s company, RBS Productions, offers services related to photographic restoration and the  transforming of photographs into art.

His current exhibit at Stanly County Agri-civic Center is entitled “All Digital. ”

“I wanted to show what you can do digitally to create art. Everything behind the glass, including the mat, is digital,” said Moore. The exhibit is a mix of digital restoration and art. He paints with a digital paint brush and palette.

“It’s just like painting with paint and a brush, except I don’t have to clean up,” he remarked.

Among the pieces in the exhibit are photographs taken by his father, Luther V. Moore, on his first job as a sidewalk photographer in 1938-1942. Moore digitally restored the photos then painted his vision on them. He creates a unique mix of the old and new through technology.

This show is sponsored by the Stanly Arts Guild. Additional pieces will also be on display at the Falling Rivers Gallery in Albemarle. For more on Moore’s art, see www.rbsdigitalart.com.

The Stanly Arts Guild is sponsored in part by the Albemarle Improvement LLC, the Stanly County Arts Council and receives support from the North Carolina Arts Council, an agency of the Department of Cultural Resources and the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes a great nation deserves great art.
