Board receives update on budget, seeks zoning member

By Justin Jones, Staff Writer

Wednesday, February 13, 2013 — With a short list of items on the agenda, the town of Red Cross council members received an update on their current fiscal year budget before approving an amendment to the budget.

Councilman Jerry Jordan led the discussion of the town’s finances, providing council with a current look at the town’s budget numbers.

“Basically, it’s just a mid- year update for where we are,” Jordan said.

“The big money items for sure stayed the same, plus we had to make a little bit of an adjustment to pay the debt off.”

The amendment to the budget, which was approved unanimously by the council members, was in regards to value from real estate, which came into the budget after the start of the fiscal year, Jordan said.

The amendment was for the town to use the money in debt retirement.

“We did run this by our accountants to make sure that they were okay with the format and they indicated that they were,” he said.

“They were complimentary of how far we’ve come.”

Other items of note:

Councilman Dicky Hatley said that the town’s planning and zoning board was down to four members, since Andy Orr will leave the board because of relocation.

Red Cross requires four members be present for a quorum.

“If anybody knows anybody who might be willing, drag them in,” Hatley said.
