Local Walmart Stores Team Together to Welcome Pfeiffer University Students Back to Campus in Style

Monday, August 15, 2011 — August 12, 2011 (Misenheimer, N.C.)—When Pfeiffer University students return to campus next week for the 2011-2012 academic year, they will discover new flat screen televisions and casual furniture in the lounge areas of their residence halls—thanks to a generous gift from the area’s Walmart stores.

The items donated by Walmart stores in a market that encompasses Albelmarle, Salisbury, Kannapolis, Concord Mills and points between, including the recently opened Walmart Express in Richfield located one mile from Pfeiffer’s Misenheimer campus, total nearly $7,000. In addition to 32” flat screen televisions and mounts, included in the gift are futons, casual chairs, area rugs, floor lamps, box fans and tray tables.

“The quality of life on campus outside the classroom is essential to a successful and satisfying undergraduate experience,” said Mike Miller, president of Pfeiffer University. “We are extremely grateful to Walmart for their willingness to support student life in this way.”

The location of the Walmart Express, on Route 49 near U.S. Route 52 in Richfield, will be convenient for Pfeiffer students for purchasing supplies such as copy paper and printer ink.

“Even prior to our grand opening, we knew Walmart’s relationship with the Pfeiffer University community would be an important one,” said Michelle Harper, manager of Richfield’s Walmart Express, which opened in June.  “We look forward to serving Pfeiffer’s students, faculty and staff year round.”

Established in 1885, Pfeiffer University is a comprehensive institution of higher education affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Pfeiffer is committed to providing educational excellence, scholarship, and service opportunities to undergraduate and graduate students across North Carolina on campuses in Charlotte, Misenheimer, and Raleigh, and online.
