College students will have two opportunities to apply for scholarships in 2013 from the Stanly Regional Medical Center Foundation to help support their studies in health care.
The Roy and Lou Hinson Scholarship will provide a two-year award totaling $2,500 to help defray the cost of tuition for a Stanly Health Services employee, a dependent of an employee or a resident of Stanly County who will have completed at least two years (60 hours) of undergraduate study by the end of spring 2013 semester with a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.5 or higher. The student must be accepted into a course of study for the fall of 2013 in the medical/health care field – in pursuit of an undergraduate degree, master’s degree or medical school/doctorate.
The Hinson Scholarship celebrates the late Roy Hinson’s 41 years of dedication to health care in Stanly County through his service at Stanly Regional Medical Center. It also celebrates his wife, Lou, who is retired from public education and was a supportive partner to her late husband, Roy, and who continues to demonstrate her commitment to Stanly Regional Medical Center in many, many ways.
The Stanly Regional Medical Center Foundation C.B. Crook Family Scholarship will provide a one-year award of $4,000 to help defray the cost of tuition for a student from Stanly or Montgomery County who will have completed two years (60 hours) of undergraduate study by the end of the spring 2013 semester with a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher. The student must be accepted into a course of study for the fall of 2013 in the medical/health care field – in pursuit of an undergraduate degree, master’s degree or medical school/doctorate.
The C.B. Crook Family Scholarship honors the philanthropic work of C.B. and Betty Crook.
“The Crooks have been leading donors to the Stanly Regional Medical Center Foundation since it was first organized in 1990,” said Jane Boone, executive director of the Foundation.
“C.B. has served as chairman of our major donor circle, the Stanly Society, since it first launched over 18 years ago and he continues to be instrumental in growing this group – now to a membership of over 180 couples and individuals.
The donations from Stanly Society members have created a broad financial base from which to draw interest income to fund countless programs, projects and services at Stanly Regional Medical Center to improve the health of our community.”
