Hink's Grill to reopen Wednesday

By Marina Shankle, Staff Writer

Tuesday, August 13, 2013 — Hink’s Grill, 2008 West Main Street, Albemarle, will reopen Wednesday under new ownership and with a few upgrades.

New owner Allen Sinclair said while some things will be different, others will remain the same.

“We’re not here to change everything, but to change the atmosphere and looks,” Sinclair said.

The interior of the restaurant will receive a new paint job, among other upgrades, but the staff and menu will undergo few changes, the new owner said.

According to Sinclair's wife, Carla Shepherd, waitress Krystal Crawford and cook Misty Helms— daughter of original owner Hink Marbry — will continue to work at Hink's Grill.

“They'll be faces that people already know,” Shepherd said.

“They are good people, good Christian people,” Sinclair said.

The restaurant's name will also stay the same.

Sinclair and Shepherd said the menu will be a return to basic breakfast.

“Our theme is 'back to the basics,'” Shepherd said.

“It's just good breakfast.”

Sinclair said for now the restaurant will only serve breakfast.

“We hope to have a simple lunch available in six or eight months,” he said.

Hink's Grill originally opened on Old Salisbury Road in 1978, relocating to West Main Street in 2007 when Helms bought the business from her father.

Shepherd said she and Sinclair are excited about opening day, even though preparation has been a lot of work.

“Allen has been working in restaurants since he was 12,” she said.

“He's managed at several different restaurants. This has been a dream of his, to own his own restaurant.”

Sinclair said he is looking forward to seeing customer's reactions to the changes that have been made to the restaurant.

“I'll be excited once we get it open,” he said.

Hink's Grill will be open for business at 5 a.m. on Aug. 14. Specials will be offered throughout the week as part of the restaurant's grand reopening.
