Village receives good financial report, continues to review

Monday, January 21, 2013 — Misenheimer Village Council got some good financial news at their meeting last week.

The village’s yearly audit shows Misenhiemer to be in good shape financially.

Members heard the annual presentation from Maxton McDowell, CPA.

“This is a good financial statement,” McDowell said.

“It shows a lot of fiscal restraint.”

McDowell said the village assets had increased $86,000 over the last fiscal year, which ended with the village having an unassigned fund balance of $492,000.

“This is a good strong position to be in,” McDowell said.

“It’s not seen in all small municipalities. They’re having a hard time. You’re fortunate.”

Board members also passed a resolution encouraging the new state administration to increase funding to the Clean Water Management Trust Fund.

Members also gave unanimous approval to the appointment of Jon Byers as an alternate to the village planning board. His term will end June 30.

That body remains busy meeting quarterly at 7 p.m. on the second Thursdays in January, April, July and October at the Community Building.

Recently, the board has been working with the North Carolina Department of Commerce (NCDOC) Division of Community Planning to review and update the village’s zoning plan, map and ordinances.

The planning board has aggred to meet again with NCDOC at 6 p.m. Feb. 21 at the Community Building to continue the zoning discussions.
