Agencies will conduct health assessment

Wednesday, February 6, 2013 — The Stanly County Health Department will partner with Stanly Regional Medical Center to conduct the 2013 Community Health Assessment. A key component of the assessment is a public opinion survey which Stanly County residents are encouraged to complete.

Every county faces health concerns that change over time; some issues may improve while others may worsen. In addition to the statistical data revealing such changing trends, opinions of local residents help add meaning to broader community health-related issues.

“Completing a survey is a great opportunity for Stanly County citizens, 15 years old and older, to let local and state officials know what they see as our county’s major health related concerns and needs,” states Dennis Joyner, health director.

There are several ways to access a survey:

1. The survey is located on both organizations’ websites: us – click on “read more” under the “2011 Community Health Assessment Online.” Then, click on 2013 Community Health Assessment. It will take you directly to the survey; – click on 2013 Community Health Assessment to take you directly to the survey.

2. Health department and Stanly Regional staff are available to present a program on the community health assessment to church, community, professional groups, etc. Audience members would be asked to complete a survey at the conclusion of the presentation.  Call Debbie Bennett at (704) 986-3016 to set up a program.

3. Stop by the health department Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. and pick up a survey.  The health department is in the Stanly Commons Building at 1000 N. First St., Suite 3 in Albemarle.

Both the Stanly County Health Department and Stanly Regional Medical Center are required to conduct an assessment of local community health needs and concerns by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the North Carolina Division of Public Health. This report is a useful document to the State, Stanly County Health Department, Stanly Reg-ional, local agencies and other groups in establishing strategies and goals for healthcare and human services needs.
