The 2013-2014 school calendar has been made, however, the Calendar Committee has two different versions available.
One version features a 180-day calendar and the other has 185 days.
The two versions are similar except the 180-day calendar does not have early release days scheduled on it. The benefit to this is that teachers won’t have to worry about lesson plans and rowdy children on half-days. Also, with the 180-day calendar, the teachers will have five full professional days in place of the early-release days.
Of the two versions, Griffin thinks the 180-day calendar will be a better fit for the school system.
Board members Dr. Angela Mills and Mike Barbee expressed an interest in moving around some of the professional days in the later part of 2013.
The calendars have been posted online for review by the public; to view, visit scs.k12.nc.us/news and look for “Proposed 2013-14 School Calendars.”
The board will not vote on the calendars until the next regularly scheduled meeting on Feb. 5.
