Wednesday, September 26, 2012 — Norwood hosted its annual Picnic in the Park on Sunday. The event lasted from 2-5 p.m. and witnessed numerous patrons coming to enjoy the food and festivities.

Norwod Town Council, along with Town Administrator Dwight Smith, organized the event and were there serving hot dogs and ice cream to the spectators. Steve Scaccianoce and Karlton Blalock were there manning the grill, and Stanly County EMS, Norwood fire and police departments were there, as well.

Atlantic Groove, from Salisbury, played on the main staging area. The band captivated Norwood residents with beach, disco, funk, country and rock music, while locals and visitors alike danced the afternoon away. Ann Reavis and Bob Dezen came all the way from Kernersville to see the band play.

“This is a way of us giving back to the citizens,” Smith said.

“We started this several years ago. The idea was to get the community to socialize in a family-friendly atmosphere.”
