The North Carolina Petroleum & Convenience Marketers (NCPCM) presented the 2012 Donald M. Ward Corporate Excellence Award to McCoy Oil Co., Inc./B&D Mart/Fairview Grocery of Midland at its Fall Conference at the Greenbrier, White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. on Oct. 21.
The award was accepted by Doug and Frances McCoy on behalf of McCoy Oil Company and its employees.
The Don Ward Corporate Excellence Award is the highest corporate honor bestowed by the oil/convenience industry in North Carolina.
The award is named in honor and recognition of Don M. Ward, long time executive vice president of the association who so typified all the qualities recognized by the award that bears his name.
The award was given in recognition of their commitment to civic and community affairs; county, multi-county and statewide promotion of the oil/convenience industry; their activity in various committees of trade organizations; attendance and participation in NCPCM meetings; their exhibiting high levels of character, integrity and respect with fellow member organizations; McCoy Companies promotion of employee relations documented by longevity of employees; and finally, their promotion and involvement in new and useful ideas to the industry.
To qualify, the company had to have been involved for at least 10 years directly in the petroleum and convenience store business or in support of the petroleum/c-store industry in North Carolina.
McCoy Oil was founded in Midland in 1955 by Doug and Frances McCoy. The company has been involved in multiple civic and business organizations in South Central North Carolina for many years.
In addition, they have also been very active in NC Petroleum Marketers Association (NCPMA) for over 41 years, having had staff serve on various committees of the association for many years. Doug McCoy served as Fuel Oil vice chair of the NC Petroleum Marketers Association and on its board of directors.
McCoy Oil sells/markets home heating fuel, agricultural fuel and highway motor fuel. In addition, they operate two convenience stores and serve dealer accounts in the Midland area.
NCPCM is a non-profit non-governmental statewide trade organization of 290 petroleum marketer and convenience store chain members and approximately 255 equipment, service, supply and affiliate companies. It is the third largest such association in the nation.
Marketers in North Carolina own, operate, control or serve approximately 85-90 percent of the approximately 6,200 retail motor fuel outlets in the state.
