ADDC Christmas offers singing, dancing, visits with Santa

Sunday, December 2, 2012 — About a month before children across Stanly County await the arrival of Santa Claus, they took the time to sit on his lap and write their Christmas wish list at the Albemarle Downtown Christmas Fri-day night.

Downtown Christmas saw hundreds, and perhaps more than a thousand people from around the county, take in the holiday season, which was ushered in Friday night with Christmas decorations, singing and dancing, some shopping and a visit from Santa himself.

Throughout the evening, the Stanly Community

College Small Business Center opened its doors with the help of The Stanly News & Press employees so that children could assure they would get what they hope for under the tree Christmas morning.

Albemarle Downtown Development Corporation Executive Director Kathy Almond said that the evening went well and she was pleased with the turn out.

The Stanly County Public Library saw its line extend out of the front door with families awaiting their chance to see and talk to Santa. During their wait, stations were set up where kids could decorate their own ornament to take home and put on their tree.

Downtown Christmas provided the last chance for shoppers to turn in their Holiday Bingo cards, as downtown shops kept their doors open with the opportunity to talk to customers. The winners of the Holiday Bingo game receive gift certificates to spend in the participating Albemarle shops.

The night began and ended with entertainment both at the Main Stage, at the corner of Main and First streets, and at the Courthouse Square Park Colonnade at Main and Second streets.
