Sex offender charged with being too close to children at event

Friday, December 28, 2012 — An Albemarle man has been arrested for violating the conditions imposed on him as a registered sex offender.

Benson Luther Little III, 51, was the focus of a report given to the Stanly County Sheriff’s Department on Oct. 28.

The reported incident occurred during an event held at the Salem United Methodist Church in Milllingport.

Little was reportedly in attendance within 300 feet of a social gathering where children were present.

During the investigation, investigators obtained the information on Little.

Warrents were obtained and he was charged with a sex offender registry violation and placed into custody at the Stanly County Detention Center under a $3,000 secured bond.

His initial court date is scheduled in Stanly County District Court on Jan. 14.
