As of Jan. 30, Albemarle High School is the owner of a new United States flag and a North Carolina state flag courtesy of Woodmen of the World insurance company.
Woodmen of the World is a Christian-based insurance company that deals with life insurance, investments, retirement insurance and health insurance.
It has been established for more than 120 years and has more than 800,000 members. It is a completely non-profit organization that is also one of the largest donators of state and national flags in the country. The company is active in its community and is involved with different charities and community projects.
Tim Carpenter was the representative that presented the flags to Principal Karen Nixon.
Carpenter has been a Stanly County representative for a little over a year, and six months ago opened a new branch of Woodmen of the World in Norwood.
Originally from Anson County, Carpenter moved to Stanly County about two years ago. He attended Wingate University and worked for his family construction business for several years before becoming an insurance agent.
“I wanted something I could do on my own,” Carpenter said.
“I wanted a business where I could feel like I was helping people.”
Carpenter is happy with Woodmen of the World and said one of the reasons he chose to work for them was because of their Christian foundation.
“They were centered on Christianity, and I liked that,” he said.
Nixon was pleased with her experience working with Woodmen of the World.
“There was a quick turnaround and it didn’t take much time at all,” she said.
“It has been a positive experience for us.”
Nixon said they had needed new flags, and her vice-principal, Randy Overcash, suggested Woodmen of the World because he had worked with them before.
She contacted them and within just a few days had a response and a date to receive the flags.
When asked if she would do business with them in the future, she responded, “Oh, most definitely.”
Woodmen of the World is at 123 N. Main St., Norwood.
