Police search for Norwood Pharmacy robbery suspect

Monday, December 17, 2012 — The Norwood Pharmacy, 269 S. Main St., was robbed on Monday, according to Norwood Police Chief Randy Smith.

The incident was reported at aproximately 10:51 a.m. Monday.

“An unidentified female came into the pharmacy and produced a weapon. She then demanded narcotics and money from the register in an undisclosed amount,” Smith said.

The suspect escaped on foot and is still being sought after.

Police were called shortly thereafter and soon arrived on the scene.

“We contacted Crime Stoppers of Stanly County and reported the incident.

“There is a $500 reward leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons involved with this crime,” Smith said.

The Stanly County Sheriff’s Office is assisting in the investigation.

The incident is still under investigation.

“At this time of the year, we see a little bit of a rise in these types of crimes, with the economy and Christmas. The drugs play a big part, too. It all has a lot to do with the economy,” Smith said.

“People do desperate things for drugs.”

At the time of the robbery, there were only employees present in Norwood Pharmacy.

Smith reported that one elderly citizen did come in the pharmacy, but “thankfully didn’t see anything.”

There were no injuries reported.

If one has any information in regards to this case, contact the Norwood Police Department at (704) 474-3716 or the Stanly County Sheriff’s Office at (704) 986-3714.
