The home of Dee Cook in Norwood was hit by lightning Tuesday night.

The Stanly News and Press (Albemarle, NC)

Severe thunderstorms that tore through the county Tuesday left one family without a home.

Lightning struck the home of the Dee Cook family at 8889 Whitley Road, Norwood, just before midnight.

According to Vaughn Rummage, fire chief for Norwood Center Rural Fire Department (VFD), the family was in bed asleep when the lightning struck.

While the family was able to make it out, the home was a total loss.

“There was a lot of damage. We can’t put a price on it,” said Rummage.

Michael Roark, Stanly County fire marshal, confirmed Rummage’s views on the extent of the damage.

While it is not confirmed, Rummage believes the family is staying in the home of a family member in Montgomery County.
