Ruth Smith, 85, of New London, who enjoyed flowers, making pies, died Dec. 28, 2013


Thursday, January 2, 2014 — Ruth Curlee Smith, 85, of New London, passed away Saturday, December 28, 2013, at CMC-Northeast.   

Her funeral service was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at Paul’s Crossing Baptist Church with Pastor Keith Walters officiating. Burial followed in Paul’s Crossing Baptist Church cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, December 30, 2013, at Stanly Funeral Home, Albemarle.

Born April 3, 1928, in Stanly County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Lonnie D. Curlee and Margie Wilhoit Curlee.  

She was retired from Richfield Manufacturing and she also spent many years as a secretary with Allstar Egg Plant in Albemarle, N.C. She was a member of Paul’s Crossing Baptist Church since 1937.

Ms. Smith enjoyed flowers, making “Jack Pies” and pecan pies. She enjoyed going to Wendy’s with her friends, reading her Bible and teaching Sunday School.

She was married to the late Richard Smith who preceded her in death in 1986. One daughter, Doris Furr and son-in-law, Arthur Frick, also preceded her in death.  

Survivors include daughters, Dianne S. Frick of Richfield and Rita S. Adcock of Kannapolis; one brother, Roy Curlee of New London; eight grandchildren, Julie Cummings and husband John, Jeremy Furr and wife Tonda, Marilyn Thompson and husband Joel, Brandon Frick and wife Stacy, Beverly Harkey and husband Sam, Adam Adcock, Sarah Adcock and Katie Adcock; and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her special canine companion, Austi.
