Betty McLaney was an office manager, volunteer

Friday, January 10, 2014 — Betty Jo Hatley McLaney was born on March 12, 1930 in Albemarle, and passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at Courtyard Gardens in Lawrenceville, Ga.

She was the only daughter and youngest child of Marvin Thomas and Josie Pauline Hahn Hatley.

Betty Jo or “BJ”, as she was known to her friends, grew up in the small town of Albemarle. She was the little sister of Marvin Thomas Hatley, Jr. and Bill Hahn Hatley.

She attended Duke University until she met her future husband, Roy Carroll Foster of Maine, who was serving in the 82nd Airborne.

The two were later married and moved to New England where they had two children, Timothy Carroll Foster and Pamela Jo Foster. Betty Jo returned to Albemarle in 1963 and shortly thereafter moved to Charlotte, where she would make a future for herself and raise her two children.

Many years later she would meet and marry Joseph W. McLaney, Jr. They lived in the South Park area of Charlotte where she continued to work as an office manager and was a member and volunteer at Sharon United Methodist Church.

In 2006 Betty Jo moved to the Atlanta area to be closer to her family.

Everybody who had the privilege of knowing Betty Jo will certainly remember her. She never met a stranger, and you always knew exactly what she was thinking!

She is survived by her son Timothy Carroll Foster; daughter Pamela Jo Foster Rodenbeck; four granddaughters, Erin Ashley Foster, Megan Marie Foster, Erika Hahn Rodenbeck and JoHanna Sophia Rodenbeck, as well as several nieces and nephews.

“Jo Jo”, as she was affectionately known later in life by her family and friends, will be laid to rest at Salem United Methodist Church, located at 20987 NC 73 in Albemarle, NC at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2014 during a graveside service.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked donations be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.Alz.Org or by calling 1-800-272-3900.

We will miss you Mom!

Love, Tim and Pam
