Verona Lowder was a Sunday school teacher for more than 40 years

Tuesday, November 26, 2013 — Verona Smith Lowder, 86, of Albemarle, passed away Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Trinity Place.  Her funeral was at 11 a.m., Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at West Albemarle Baptist Church with Rev. Ed Lowder officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Memorial Park.  The family receive friends from 10-10:45 a.m., Tuesday, in the West Albemarle Baptist Church Family Life Center.

Born March 14, 1927 in Stanly County, she was the daughter of the late John W. Smith and Florence Haire Smith and was a retired employee of Wiscassett Mills.  She was also co-owner and operator of Big Oak Curb Market with her husband Ted Lowder.  

She was a member of West Albemarle Baptist Church where she taught children in Sunday school for over 40 years. She always had a wonderful laugh and a smile that everyone loved.  

She was married to the late Edward A. “Ted” Lowder, who preceded her in death in 1996. Also preceding her in death were two sons, Bob Lowder and Roger Lowder; five sisters, Dorothy Smith, Esther Barnhardt, Eunice Smith, Alice Curtis and Desdy Swanner.  

Survivors include two sons, Rev. George Edward Lowder and wife Pam of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Jim Lowder and wife Barbara of Albemarle; a daughter-in-law, Cynthia Lowder of Albemarle; a sister, Elnora Smith of Stone Mountain, Georgia; eight grandchildren, Stephen Lowder, Sarah Myer, Jenny Lowder, Chris Lowder, Kevin Lowder, Kyle Lowder, Adam Lowder and Amy Black; and nine great-grandchildren.
