Robert Bingham

Thursday, April 3, 2014 — Greensboro – Robert Larry Bingham died on April 1, 2014, after an illness of a few weeks.

Larry was born July 18, 1944, at Yadkin Hospital, Albemarle, N.C., the son of the late Robert Lee Bingham and the late Pauline Moore Bingham.

Born with autism and a degree of physical disability, Larry attended public schools in Albemarle and Norwood. He had a remarkable memory for historical dates, paths of highway routes, mileages and census figures. He was especially fond of the Carolinas, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.  

Larry grew up in Albemarle, but in adulthood he lived a year in Asheboro, 16 years in Mt. Gilead and 28 years in an assisted-living home in Seven Lakes. He spent his last four years in a Greensboro nursing facility, where he was known for his pleasant and patient disposition.

Larry is survived by his brother, Warren L. Bingham and sister-in-law, Laura Carpenter Bingham of Raleigh.

Larry will be interned at Sharon Cemetery in Mt. Gilead in a private graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to George Washington’s Mount Vernon, PO Box 110, Mt. Vernon, VA  22121.

Edwards Funeral Homes of Norwood is handling the arrangements.
