Johnny Watkins served in Vietnam, received many honors, Purple Heart

Monday, September 16, 2013 — Mr. Johnny William Watkins was born June 5, 1951, to the late Willie Watkins and Agnes Davis Watkins. He departed this life on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at Carolinas Medical Center-Northeast in Concord, N.C.

He attended the public schools of Anson County and also earned an Associate’s Degree from Anson Technical College.

Johnny also served honorably in the Vietnam War and earned the Purple Heart, Good Conduct, National Defense, Vietnam Service, Army Commendation and Silver Star medals.

He retired from Phillip Morris, USA after 20 years of service.

His church affiliation was with Cedar Hill A.M.E. Zion Church of Ansonville, N.C.

He has left behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Theresa Wilson Watkins of the home; daughter, Latoya (Maurice) Chambers; two grandchildren, Amauri and Kyndal Chambers, all of Durham, N.C.; three sisters, Deloice Hungerford of Saucier, Miss., Penny (Harrison) Boyd of Miami, Fla. and Alice Wall of Salisbury, N.C.; two aunts, Bernice (Wilson) Thomas of Baltimore, Md. and Deloris Watkins of Badin, N.C.; six nephews, Maurice (Nicole) Watkins of Gulfport, Miss., Andy Watkins of Baltimore, Md., Genero Dobson of Hanover, Pa., Eric Dobson of Columbia, Md., Xavier Wall of Salisbury, N.C. and Demori Boyd of Miami, Fla.; and two nieces, Shacori (Sidney) Doret and Shyia Boyd, all of Miami, Fla.

Also left to cherish his memory are three sisters-in-law, Annette (Anthony) Cato of Badin, N.C., Rosa (Herman) Godwin and Melinda Wilson, all of Hampton, Va.; two brothers-in-law, Charlie Wilson Jr. of Forrest City, N.C. and Ronnie Wilson of Badin, N.C., along with a host of other relatives and friends.
