Memorial service for Nancy Palmer, 77, of Raleigh and Fairfax, Va., will be June 5, 2014

Tuesday, June 3, 2014 — Nancy Lena Palmer, 77, of Raleigh, N.C. and Fairfax, Va., passed away peacefully into the loving hands of God on June 1, 2014.

Born September 24, 1936, in New London, N.C., Nancy graduated from Appalachian State College and The University of Northern Colorado with her B.S. and Master’s degrees in Primary Education. A devoted teacher for more than 30 years, Nancy touched the lives of second through fifth graders from Fairfax County, Virginia to those on military bases in Bermuda, Okinawa and Germany. In retirement those learning English as a Second Language were the recipients of her gift of teaching.

Her interests were many and reflected her love of beauty that she found in all of God’s creation, from beautiful operas to traveling the world, she delighted in it all.

A longtime member of Columbia Baptist Church in Falls Church, Virginia, and most recently as a member of Hayes Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh, Nancy cherished her times of worship and prayer and it was this love of God and unwavering faith that guided and sustained her throughout her life.

Nancy is survived by her sister, Helen Palmer Majors and her husband Bob of Raleigh; brother, John Thomas Palmer Jr. of Alpharetta, Ga.; brother, Benjamin Franklin Palmer and his wife Patricia of Concord, N.C.; brother, Fred Watson Palmer of New London, N.C.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Her parents, Mary Honeycutt and John Thomas Palmer, preceded her in death.

A memorial service will be on Thursday, June 5, 2014, at Hayes Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh, N.C. at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends in the church parlor following the service.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to all who have offered kind words, expressions of love and prayers. We especially want to offer our gratitude to Naomi, Dorcas, Maureen, Joy and Erica for their gifts of care and compassion.
